OIL STORAGE INNOVATION
McKeown helped Chicago Bridge & Iron invent, patent and test the world’s first underwater oil storage tanks now installed off Dubai. These tanks allow oil to be stored above an offshore wellhead and loaded on a tanker without the need for a port and jetty.
McKeown also helped design and supervise the construction of the South Riding Point Oil Transshipment Terminal on Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas. This terminal can accommodate the world’s largest supertankers and allow their cargoes to be unloaded and transshipped on smaller tankers to North American ports. This basically created a deep water port 90 miles from the North American mainland.
